I was recently listening to the Grupo de Autoayuda de Dibujo podcast (highly recommended) and heard that sometimes the time comes to say goodbye to a project, not because you’ve finished it (that’s usually easy) but because you never managed to finish it, publish it, or find a client or the funding to take it forward.
That’s the case with these illustrations that I love so much. I created them to enter the Iberoamérica Ilustra competition and, although I wasn’t selected, I really like them. In my mind, they’re the pitch for a series of illustrated books, Across de Burned Valley, which tells the adventures of a group of friends in a desolate, twilight world. I never got round to developing it further due to a combination of lack of time and not feeling I had the necessary skills to write a story like that. Anyway, until now it was part of my portfolio, but I think the time has come to accept that that ship has sailed.
On the Grupo de Autoayuda de Dibujo podcast, they talk about honouring it, a little ritual, something to help you say goodbye to that project into which you poured not only time and effort, but also hope and affection. I’ve decided that my ritual will be to ‘bury’ the project on this blog.
Anyway, if you’re an editor, a writer, or someone who gets things done, and you like this lovely bunch as much as I do, send me an email and we’ll have a chat (let me dream).
In the meantime, I’ll leave you here, mates, thanks for everything :_)
